Milepad

Questions

Which rates does Milepad use?

IRS 2026: business 72.5 cents a mile to June 30 and 76 cents from July 1, medical 20.5 then 23.5 cents, charity 14 cents. 2025 is also loaded. HMRC: 55p for the first 10,000 business miles of the tax year from 6 April 2026 (45p before), 25p after, 24p motorcycles, 20p bicycles. France: the barème kilométrique of the arrêté du 27 mars 2023, unchanged for 2025 and 2026, by CV and distance band, plus 20 percent for electric cars. Trips from other years are flagged and counted at zero.

Is the report accepted by the IRS or HMRC?

Neither body approves a format. They ask for a record with the date, destination, purpose and distance, made at the time. The report has those fields, the rate used, a total and a signature line. You are responsible for the facts in it.

Where does my data go?

Your trips stay in your browser. Free logs are not saved at all. Pro logs are saved in this browser's local storage, and you can save and load a file. The only outside calls are the optional distance lookup (OpenStreetMap's Nominatim and the OSRM demo server) and the payment check with Stripe.

How accurate is the distance lookup?

It is the driving route from OpenStreetMap data, one way, between two addresses. It can differ from your odometer by a few percent. Type your own figure if you have one.

Does France count each trip separately?

No. The barème works on the year's total for each vehicle, so Milepad adds the kilometres per vehicle and calendar year, applies the band, and shares the amount across the lines.
